Midwifery has been a large part of my life for more than 30 years. During this time, I have worked in both high and low risk hospital settings, providing all aspects of midwifery care, with an emphasis on birth. I was privileged to work with many families when the Gold Coast Birth Centre opened and this confirmed for me that continuity of care was what I was truly passionate about and the area in which women and their families experienced the most positive outcomes. Moving from this model into private practice in 2011 was a natural transition and one I have never regretted. I love the ability to work to full scope as a midwife being with women birthing in the hospital or home.
As a clinical director of My Midwives I have more recently been using my skills to support midwives new to the model and our business. I believe that by developing midwives in private practice we can take this option of care to a much wider group of people whether that be publicly funded or private models. Watching my grandson being born in 2022 has renewed my strong belief that all women deserve this model of care.
Outside of midwifery I really enjoy travelling, time by the water in the sun, watching my son’s band when they play nearby and of course lots of cuddles with my grandbaby.
