During my midwifery training, I worked with women and families from diverse backgrounds in a range of settings including both home and hospital. Since completing my degree I have worked in a busy birthing unit, a small rural maternity unit and in a continuity of care model caring for women from early pregnancy through to six weeks after birth.
My midwifery philosophy is underpinned by a deep respect for women and the belief that pregnancy and birth are healthy physiological processes. During this significant and special time I feel my job is to support families by creating an environment where women and partners feel safe, supported, informed and respected. I see that the role of a midwife is to be with women and enable an empowering, positive transition to motherhood.
I am a mother of three children (aged between 8 and 16). I gave birth to my first child at age 20 and this opened my eyes to the amazing work midwives do. I enjoy good food, reading, sleeping, travelling, dancing and having adventures.
