The Eligible Midwives Private Practice Midwifery Models of Care at Toowoomba Hospital has received a Highly Commended in Monday night’s Premier Awards.
The public private partnership between My Midwives private practice and other eligible midwives and Toowoomba Hospital is the first model in Australia of its kind. The award for leadership and governance recognises the excellence in these key areas of this project.
Liz Wilkes Managing Director of My Midwives said “It is such an honour to be recognised for excellence in leadership and governance as we are leading a new model of service delivery which offers a completely new alternative for women seeking pregnancy and birth care.” The model offers women a known private practice midwife for care during their pregnancy, labour and birth and to the point where the baby is six weeks old. Women birth at Toowoomba Hospital, often in the state of the art birth centre, with their private midwife as their midwifery care provider.
“The hospital medical staff are a key component of this model” Ms Wilkes added “It has been due to their support and care of women where medical care is required is integral to the service”.
The Premier’s Award Highly Commended adds to the list of awards that have been won by the model.
“We are thrilled that women in the Toowoomba region are getting this high level of care offered to them. Toowoomba Hospital is leading the way in options across the state and nation. My Midwives is proud to be a part of this service.”
