I qualified as a midwife in 2002. Since qualifying as a direct entry midwife (no nursing qualification) I have worked in all areas of midwifery. I have throughout my career worked within the hospital setting, and home settings as a core midwife, community midwife, case-load midwife and as part of a team of midwives. I have worked in the public health sector in the UK and Australia, and also as a private midwife in Australia. I chose to concentrate my midwifery career in Private practice due to the fact that I found working within the public sector I was unable to practice true to my midwifery philosophy.

Midwifery Interest

As a midwife I feel very strongly about promoting natural childbirth, I believe this can be best achieved with continuity of care that is midwifery led. Whilst working in this model I strive to support women to achieve the birth experience they want and deserve. Since qualifying as a midwife in 2002 I have worked in all areas of midwifery both in obstetric-led hospitals and within the community, supporting women that have chosen to birth both in hospital and at home. I am proud to say that wherever the setting, I try hard to empower the women I care for to believe in themselves and their bodies to birth without unnecessary medical intervention. I am an advocate of the use of water as a pain relieving agent especially in labour and was a leader of the successful implementation of water birthing at the Armadale Kelmscott Memorial Hospital. I am also extremely passionate about teaching midwifery and I do this in the hospital, in the community and in the university environment.

Other Interests

I have three amazing sons, who are now all grown men, I enjoy spending time with them and my gorgeous grandchildren when their busy lives allow us to all get together. I also like to travel in my caravan around Australia with my husband for plenty of rest and relaxation, whenever the opportunity arises.
