Experience
I had been a Registered Nurse for 20 years, but always wanted to be a midwife! After the birth of my first 2 children, I studied enthusiastically and have practiced as a midwife for the last 22 years. I have worked in all areas of midwifery at a variety of hospitals on the north side of Brisbane and have worked in a continuity of care models at both Caboolture Hospital and also at the Birth Centre at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. I have been in private practice since 2012 with a small practice until joining My Midwives as a Director in December 2015. I have loved the relationships I get to develop with families and especially love supporting women during their birth journey.
2 yrs ago I joined the BiOC Team (Birthing in Our Community) as the Midwifery Clinical Manager. This calling to work with our First Nations Families and the midwives on this team has strengthened a passion to improve health care for our families, and walk with them every day to support them on their journey – wherever they are at.
Midwifery Interest
I believe that midwifery provides the opportunity to empower women about their potential to immerse themselves in their birthing journey, and enables them to make informed choices best suited to themselves and their families needs. As midwives, I believe we should be mindful, respectful, and supportive of the dynamic changes that new life brings to the family unit, whilst still being in awe of the miracle of birth!
I LOVED all of my births – I felt supported and educated by my midwives to make the right choices for my family and myself! I hope that in my new role as a Private Practicing Midwife, Director & Midwifery Clinical Manager I can offer the same level of advice and support to women and their families as they go through the wonderful journey of pregnancy and birth!
Personal Interest
I love spending time with my husband and 3 adult children and their partners. I love going camping, water skiing and just getting to enjoy them as young adults. I also enjoy going to the gym, reading and sewing and having some quiet time to myself.
